Today was a rest day in Namche allowing us to get acclimatised for the elevation gain ahead, after breakfast we hiked up to the Everest View Hotel at 3,880 and were not disappointed by the weather blocking our view and were able to get our first glimpses of Lhotse and Everest and the challenge ahead.
Along the way we met Tommy Gustafsson from Sweden who through his charitable endeavour, www.sagarmathanext.com and supported by the Saraf family is building a truly amazing visitor centre combined with artists studios and recycling initiative of ‘carry a bag’ to ask everyone to carry down off the mountain a 1 kg of waste (mainly plastic) to Tensing Hilary Airport in Lukla to be sorted and recycled and taken off the mountain, he started the project in 2017 and aims to finish with the year, some of the plastic is retained and re-used by the artists in residence in the project at the centre.
A chance encounter with Kenton Cool at the viewpoint presented a photo opportunity not to be missed and he kindly signed my copy of Nims book.
After a couple of hours at the Everest View Hotel, taking photos and indulging in some delicious coffee we headed down and had the rest of the day to ourselves.
Tomorrow we push onto Tengboche at 3,867m.
